Welders

From piece part creation, to panel manufacture, to whole ship build – our welders play a hugely important role in the manufacturing process for the Type 31 Frigate programme. You’ll perform welding and related tasks, visual inspections of completed welds, and maintain welding plant functionality and processes in a ‘safety first’ way.

To do this role you’ll need previous experience of tooling maintenance, technical instructions and IAW welding procedures, and acceptance standards. You’ll also need to hold a recognised Welding Apprenticeship to N/SVQ Level 3.

Fabricators

With manufacturing of the Type 31 frigates taking place on site at Rosyth, we need a large team of Fabricators to make that happen. From carrying out structural steel fabrication, interpreting drawings and specifications, to routine maintenance checks, as one of our Fabricators your day will be packed with variety as you work on one of the most exciting engineering projects in the UK.

With previous experience of working within the marine industry or another industry of similar size and scope, you’ll need to hold a Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a sheet metal, structural steel or fabrication related discipline and a relevant Level 3 Engineering qualification.

Trades Supervisor

Leading our teams of trade specialists are our Trades Supervisors. They use their experience and technical knowledge to lead their Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical, Electrical or Pipe Welding teams – making sure that safety is the first priority as they take ownership of delivery and workloads for their area.

As well as experience in their chosen field, to be one of our Supervisors you’ll need associated technical qualifications and the excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills needed to work within our team environment.

Electricians

As a state-of-the-art warship, the Type 31 frigate will need robust and reliable electrical systems to be installed to host the digital systems at the heart of it. That’s where you step in. As part of our Electrical Fitter Team you’ll be carrying out the installation of electrical equipment within the frigate, including shock and non-shock mounted items.

To join the team, you’ll need previous experience of multi pin plug connection and assembly, including low voltage systems installation. You’ll also need to have an ONC Electrical Engineering or a Level 3 Electrical apprenticeship.

Pipe Fitters

Running throughout the Type 31 Frigate are the miles of piping needed to operate the vessel, which is why we need teams of Fitters to fabricate, bend, weld and fit the on-board pipes. Working at height and in confined spaces, you’ll be on hand to install, inspect, and repair various pipe systems to our safety and quality standards.

Qualified to an apprentice (or equivalent) level and with experience in a previous role, you’ll be able to read engineering designs, demonstrate knowledge of pipe fitting standards and regulations, and of course be happy working with tools and equipment common to the trade.

Mechanical Fitter

With a range of systems in the Type 31 frigate, including shaft lines, power generation, prime movers, valves and pumps, our Mechanical Fitters are on hand to support with the installation, testing, and removal of all mechanical equipment. The role brings with it variety and challenge and is hugely important to the overall project.

To qualify for this role, you’ll need to hold an ONC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and have previous experience of working as a Mechanical Fitter in an environment with energised equipment.

Relocating to Fife

As well as the meaningful and fulfilling work onsite there are lots of great reasons for making Rosyth your new home.

We’re based in the historic Scottish county of Fife, the third largest local authority in Scotland and home to over 360,000 people. Most of our team live close by, with the majority situated in the town of Rosyth or in Dunfermline, which was recently named the due to its low house prices, and its culture and amenities.

Fife itself has been voted the ‘No 1 outdoor destination’ by Scottish Natural Heritage for the past eight years – with 4,961 listed buildings, 48 conservation areas and 117 miles of coastline, it’s a place full of history and natural beauty.

If you’re a sports fan, then there is plenty for you to do. There are 50 golf courses across the region including the world-famous St Andrews, the home of Golf and its world governing body The R&A. It also has the only FIA-graded motorsport venue in Scotland Knockhill Racing Circuit, with Cowdenbeath Racing and Lochgelly Raceway also easily accessible. Dunfermline Athletic are the closest Scottish football league team, with Raith Rovers further along the coast at Kirkcaldy.

There are excellent regional transport links. Rosyth is just a stone’s throw from the Forth Bridge that leads south to Edinburgh across the Firth of Forth. Road and rail links can see you quickly travel to Stirling, Falkirk, and Glasgow in the west or Perth and Dundee in the north. The closest airport is Edinburgh International, which is less than a 40-minute car journey away.
