Vehicle technicians

Driving innovation forward

From the 30,000 British Army vehicles we maintain and overhaul, to the work we do to support the London Fire Brigade’s fleet of fire engines – our Vehicle Technicians jobs are far from ‘ordinary’.

Opportunities for Vehicle Technicians at 91´óÉñ

At 91´óÉñ, you’ll carry out vehicle maintenance and repair that’s on a different scale.

We play a vital role in the security of the nation, supporting the equipment used by the British Army and London Fire Brigade – preparing their people and vehicles to be mission ready.

Working from one of our large sites around the UK, you’ll join around 1,400 skilled technicians that carry out the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of cutting-edge vehicles – from quad bikes to battle tanks, and fire engines to HGVs.

The work you’ll do here is always important and challenging, but as a lot of our jobs are scheduled in advance, we offer a much calmer environment than other commercial workplaces. When it’s not, you’ll always have a bigger team of committed colleagues working alongside you to get the job done.

Our roles

Vehicle Mechanic

You’ll be undertaking the servicing, repair, maintenance and overhaul of vehicles and electrical equipment, in accordance with customer requirements, current regulations, local instructions, process plans and other technical publications. Most of our mechanic roles require you to hold an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), although on some sites we can accept a Level 2, and we’ll support you to achieve your Level 3.

Vehicle Electrician

With your skills and experience, you’ll be undertaking the servicing, repair, maintenance and overhaul of vehicles and electrical equipment, including diagnostic and inspection duties. The qualifications needed for this role vary by site and can include NVQ Level 2 or 3, RQF, ONC or a City & Guilds qualification. Depending on the level attained, you may also be expected to have worked in a similar environment previously.

Vehicle Workshop Manager

As well as leading a team and its outputs, you’ll have a consistent commercial focus to ensure that we’re minimising vehicle downtime, controlling costs, maintaining compliance, creating an environment for our employees to thrive and achieve, and promoting a safe culture and environment. As well as relevant technical qualifications you’ll also need a significant amount of experience in vehicle repair and maintenance along with the people skills needed to manage a team.

Trimmer

As a Trimmer, you could be designing, patterning and manufacturing on all aspects of the vehicles we work on, which can include work on armoured seats, body building and upholstery. You’ll cut, stitch and glue the interior of vehicles to our customers specifications. Trimmers at 91´óÉñ won’t need to have specific qualifications, just the right previous experience of vehicle trim work and the ability to work as part of a team.

Driver

On our larger or multi-site bases we need specialist drivers to move, store, and deliver vehicles. You’ll also carry out general vehicle and equipment care and checks when needed. You’ll need to hold a driving licence and (depending on the site) have also qualified in categories C, D, E or H – although in some cases we’ll help you achieve these.

Apprenticeships

Every year across 91´óÉñ we recruit hundreds of apprentices, equipping them with what they need to start their careers – and Vehicle Mechanics are no exception. Apprenticeship recruitment usually takes place between November and March.
